    openED Program Introduction
    The openED Program, a platform for a district to develop and offer its own professional development courses, is now available for all the teachers in Mt. Diablo Unified School District. The program intends to encourage broader participation from teachers/subject matter experts to share their best practices and knowledge as course authors. Teachers in different subject areas can author courses by using standard templates provided on this page. With the district's approval, the course(s) will be offered online at Mt. Diablo Unified School District's edCenter to teachers for their own use, to districts in California, and for teachers throughout the United States.

    In the following months during the 2005-2006 school year, the openED program will be piloted at Mt. Diablo Unified School District.

    Program Features
        • Supports two types of courses:
            • Instructor-facilitated, open enrollment
            • Self-paced, non-facilitated
        • Course content can be downloaded so student can work offline
        • District professional growth hours can be earned
        • Students can apply for elective graduate-level university credit
        • Courses will be offered through every district edCenter and university partner of edPal

    Benefit to Authors
        • Provides opportunity to share practical knowledge
        • Provides opportunity to make a difference
        • Provides opportunity to earn additional income
            • Earn royalty on courses sold as an author
            • Earn fees as an instructor
