SB472 Houghton Mifflin Reading Program (ED/D 9373)

This course provides participants with 40 hours of professional development in the Houghton Mifflin Reading program. The goal is to develop teachers who can effectively use the adopted program to address the varied learning needs of all pupils with emphasis on English language learners and pupils with exceptional needs thereby increasing student achievement.

Topics Include:

  • The importance of teaching the academic content standards.
  • Understanding and integrating the curriculum frameworks.
  • Understanding how to use the Houghton Mifflin instructional materials that will be used by pupils.
  • Learning instructional strategies designed to help all pupils gain mastery of the California academic content standards.
  • Learning how to organize and manage the English-Language Arts block in order to provide universal access to all students with special emphasis on English Language learners and pupils with exceptional needs.
